A police inspector shot a habitual offender in the leg when he attacked a constable while trying to evade arrest in Vidyaranyapura, north Bengaluru, on Friday night.
A team of policemen from Vidyaranyapura, led by inspector Puneeth Kumar R, rushed to a house around 1 am after receiving information that Nakul, a history-sheeter, was trying to kill his arch-rival Joseph.
As police gave chase, Nakul reportedly attacked one of the constables. Kumar then shot him in the leg. Police later took Nakul to a hospital where the bullet was removed. His condition is stable. Nakul is wanted in several cases and has warrants against him.
This is the second time that the inspector shot a suspected criminal in the leg. On February 27, 2017, he had fired at Kommaghatta Manju alias Manjunath who is suspected to be involved in several chain-snatchings and robberies.
