JOIN USTravelling in an AC III-tier compartment will be much more comfortable as the Railways is ready to roll-out refurbished coaches that would be gadget-friendly, secure and equipped with smart toilets.
A new batch of AC III-tier coaches produced by the Modern Coach Factory in Raebareli will be attached to the ‘Humsafar’ train, which is soon going to be launched between Sriganganagar in Rajasthan and Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu. The train will only have AC III-tier coaches.
USB charging ports
Each coach will have more USB charging ports, reading lights for all berths and ladders with comfortable footrests.
Apart from this, additional handles will be there for easier access to the top berth, said a Railway official.
The coaches will have separate urinals for men in the toilets.
Foldable nappy-changing tables for babies will also be available.
A GPS-enabled screen has been installed in each coach to display the train’s location.
Smoke detector alarms, CCTV cameras near doors and tea/coffee vending machines are other features of the coach.
The manufacturing cost of each coach is Rs 2.7 crore, about Rs 20 lakh more than an ordinary AC III-tier coach, the official added.
