Last Updated 14 June 2017, 19:07 IST

Former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy moved an application for anticipatory bail before the High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday after the Lokayukta Special Court rejected his bail plea on Tuesday.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing into illegal mining cases, has registered a case against Kumaraswamy based on the statement made by IAS officer and an accused in the illegal mining case, Gangaram Baderiya.

The SIT had arrested Baderiya for according permission to Janthakal Enterprises in 2006 for lifting iron ore.  Baderiya had said that the permission was given on the instructions of the then chief minister Kumaraswamy. The SIT had summoned Kumaraswamy to appear before the investigating officer and he later filed an anticipatory bail application before the lower court, which was rejected on Tuesday.

Although his petition was not listed in the high court, Kumaraswamy's advocate Hasmath Pasha moved the petition through a memo. Hearing the plea, Justice Rathnakala told the advocate to list the matter before the court. The application is likely to be heard on Thursday.
