<p>A CRPF Inspector General, whose “discreet” inquiry into an encounter in Assam triggered a controversy, has been transferred from his posting in the northeast.<br /><br />Rajnish Rai, a 1992-batch IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre, had submitted a report to the CRPF claiming that two persons, who were claimed to be NDFB rebels, were killed in a fake encounter in Simlaguri area of Chirang district on March 30.<br /><br />The operation was carried out by a joint team of the Assam Police, army, CRPF and its jungle warfare unit CoBRA and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).<br /><br />Rai has now been asked to join the Counter Insurgency and Anti Terrorism (CIAT) School of the CRPF at Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.</p>
