Aamer Sohail says Pak in finals due to match fixing

Last Updated 16 June 2017, 12:41 IST

Casting a shadow on the ICC Champions Trophy torunament ahead of the final, scheduled to be played between India and Pakistan on Sunday, former Pakistani captain Aamer Sohail has alleged that the torunament has been fixed.

The former batsmen has claimed that Pakistan have made it into the final because "they were supposed to" in an interview to a Pakistan news channel.

"We will congratulate you when you play well but we'll also criticise you when you don't. They [Pakistan team] should not be flying too high on their success at the moment because we know that they've been 'brought' to this position", Sohail said according to the Times of India.|

Sohail was referring to team Pakistan's dramatic turnaround after their initial loss against Indian in the Group B match, as they went on to beat beat Sri Lanka, South Africa, and then England in the first semi-final on Monday.

“Sarfraz needs to be told that you have not done anything great. Someone has helped you win the game. There is no reason for you (Sarfraz) to be so happy. We all know what happens behind the scenes. Don’t wish to get into the details on who won them the games. If asked, I will say that the prayers of the fans and God has won them the games. They have been brought to the final due to external factors and not based on on-field performance. The boys now need to be level-headed and focus on playing good cricket,” he said according to the Indian Express.
