CMC prepares to tackle rain woes

 In the backdrop of warning of heavy rain by Meteorological Department, the City Municipal Council has taken precautionary measures for the safety of its citizens.

The City Municipality has directed citizens living on the top of hills and in low-lying areas to move to safer areas. Temporary gruel centres have been opened at the community centres in Madikeri. People can move to the gruel centres for shelter and safety, said the officials.

Some of the houses at Chamundeshwari Nagara, Jyothinagara, Stonehill, Stevert Hill are in danger. The City Municipal Council has also opened helpline. In case of emergency, the people can contact the CMC for help.

Gruel centres

The areas that come under the gruel centre at Sri Rama Seva Samithi are Mallikarjuna Nagara, Bhagavathi Nagara, Ranipete, behind ITI, FMC College, Vidyanagara and Convent School.  The areas that come under the gruel centre at Gramabhivridhi Samithi, Kumbalageri Ukkuda are Tyagaraja Colony, Gaddige, Azad Nagara, Ukkuda, Rajarajeshwari Nagara and Sampige Katte. The areas that come under the gruel centre at Arunodaya community hall, Indiranagara are Chamundeshwari Nagara and Indira Nagara. 

The gruel centre has also been opened at Adiparashakti community hall, Ambedkar Centenary Bhavana, SGSRY community hall. Those who wish to take shelter at gruel centres can contact: 08272 220111, 94482 24994, 97431 32759.
