Looking back, actor Priya Anand is glad that she made her debut in the Kannada film industry with ‘Raajakumara’, not only because the script offered her more than what she expected but also because the film’s success opened up new avenues.

‘Raajakumara’, which has actor Puneeth Rajkumar in the lead, completes 100 days in the theatres on July 1. Priya feels that the Kannada film industry is now open to offbeat subjects and is welcoming to actors from other languages. In an interview with Nina C George, Priya shares her excitement about the success of ‘Raajakumara’.

On your debut in the Kannada film industry...

My launch in the Kannada film industry was long overdue. There were so many films that I was supposed to do but my tight schedule didn’t allow me to give dates to Kannada movies.

What do you think has contributed to the success of ‘Raajakumara’?

The film has connected with the family audiences and struck a chord with people of all age groups. In fact, my friend’s grandmother celebrated her birthday by watching ‘Raajakumara’.

What is the best compliment you have received for your role?

Most people who watched the film told me that they identified with the characters. It’s not just another Puneeth Rajkumar film, and I will always cherish being a part of this project.

Do you have a lot of offers from the Kannada film industry?

I have had a lot of offers coming my way, especially after the success of ‘Raajakumara.’ But I don’t want to sign the next project till I am sure it would be just as good as
this project or even better.

What kind of subjects interest you?

I want to be a part of the transition the Kannada film industry is going through.  After ‘Raajakumara’, people may think that I am keen on working on projects that have only big names but that’s not true. I would love to work on offbeat subjects in Kannada.

What are you working on now?

I just completed working on ‘Fukrey 2’. It is a continuation of part one and I can’t describe how crazy, honest and wacky the film will be.

Any regrets so far?

I am sure every actor has regrets. I really can’t complain because my experiences have made me who I am today.
