Actor Shamita Shetty had a dream debut with Aditya Chopra’s ‘Mohabbatein’ though her stint in Bollywood has been sporadic of late. The break was intentional as Shamita decided to pursue interior designing.

The actor, who was in the city to inaugurate a new branch of ‘Advanced Beauty Cosmetic Clinic’, talks to Surupasree Sarmmah about making a comeback in the entertainment industry, her idea of beauty and more.

How did the shift from movies to interior designing happen?
After a few films in Bollywood, I wasn’t happy with the work that was coming my way. Around the same time, I designed the interiors of a night club owned by my brother-in-law. The fun that I had in the entire process inspired me to learn more and I took off to London to study.

Any plans of a comeback...
I am doing a web series that will be released next month.

Thoughts on web series...
The content that you see here is very different from other formats. There is no censorship so directors are able to experiment a lot more.

Your idea of beauty...
For me, beauty is not just external but also who you are within. As far as I am concerned, I don’t like doing too much makeup... but hair, maybe yeah! (laughs)

How was your experience of being a part of reality shows?
I don’t plan anything in my life. I have participated in ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’ and ‘Bigg Boss’. However, ‘Bigg Boss’ is not something that I would want to venture into now, because of how things are. Overall, I don’t think there are any reality shows that catch my attention now.

What would you choose — dancing or acting?
I enjoy dancing. But given a choice, I would choose acting because I haven’t explored it enough.

Do you read?
I find it very boring to sit in one place and read. But if you give me a book on topics like health, fitness or spirituality, then I can read it.

Heels or flats...
Heels. I prefer wearing them when I am going out as they make me feel feminine.

Songs in your playlist...
‘Bon Appétit’ by Katy Perry, ‘Swalla’ by Jason Derulo and ‘Something Just Like This’ by Chainsmokers.

A beach-facing house or a penthouse...
A beach-facing house. There is something very calm about the sound of the waves.
