China was supposed to maintain status quo: Bhutan

Last Updated 29 June 2017, 19:34 IST

Bhutan had asked China to restore the status quo in Doklam Plateau before June 16, the day the communist country’s personnel started building a road in the disputed area.

Bhutan on Thursday said the construction of a road from Dokola in Doklam Plateau to a camp of the Royal Bhutan Army by China’s People’s Liberation Army was a “direct violation” of the agreements between Thimphu and Beijing to maintain peace and tranquillity in their border areas, pending a final settlement on the boundary dispute.
