No motor vehicles in the morning at Nandi Hills today, tomorrow

If you are planning to drive up to Nandi Hills on July 1 and 2 to enjoy the view of the sun rise, then think again.

With the local administration banning the movement of motor vehicles on the hill between 5 am and 9 am on Saturday and Sunday, you will have to ride your own bicycle or be ready to trek to the top from the foothills.

To make Nandi Hills an eco-friendly destination and promote cycling, based on the suggestion of a few select groups, the district administration and horticulture department have ordered a ban on motor vehicles to Nandi Hills on Saturday and Sunday (July 1 and 2).

Around 300 cyclists are likely to take part in the cycle rally at Nandi Hills on Saturday. This decision, however, is temporary. But the local administration has not made any parking arrangements. They are not providing any cycles to people, who come in their vehicles from distant places to view the sun rise from the hill top. “We agree that many visitors flock Nandi Hills. The rush is especially high during weekends. But this decision to ban motor vehicles for four hours in the morning is being done for the first time. The idea is to make Nandi Hills an eco-friendly destination,’’ said Manjunath J, CEO, Zilla Panchayat, Chikkaballapur. According to him, a final decision would be taken based on the response and feedback during the two-day trial.

Motorists will have to park their vehicles at the foothills on road sides near Karahalli Cross, Nandi Cross or on the service road along the national highway (NH-7) and then cycle or walk up.
