Govt school shines with state-of-the-art lab

The Government High School at Somanahalli in the taluk has proved that it is not inferior to the private schools in the entire district.

As one enters the campus, it is the science resource centre that attracts the attention of visitors.

The centre has been established with the support of the Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society. The school has a state-of-the-art full-fledged laboratory with the latest equipment as well. Along with science, the school has a social science and a Kannada laboratory. Only five schools in the state has such science resource centres.

The students learn science while playing. They learn the basic science, gravitation, Newton’s law and other aspects through demonstration at the centre.

The social science laboratory explains minute details of geography. With the use of plastic balls, the solar system has been created to explain the students on eclipse, movement of planets and so on.

There are 100 students pursuing their studies from eighth to 10th standard at the school.
The school also has smart class. A small room in the school provides complete details on the evolution of the Earth.
