Moneylender held for abducting, torturing family

A private moneylender has been arrested for abducting a family and tying up a woman, who was stripped, in front of her husband and four-month-old baby.

Udayagiri police arrested Suhel, 31 of Chamarajanagar, for abducting a family of three from their house in Shantinagar in the city on Tuesday as they had failed to repay his loan. Suhel, a history-sheeter, is also a murder accused. According to the police, the family was taken to an abandoned house in Galipur near Chamarajanagar where they were held illegally.

Police said that on Wednesday, Suhel called one of the relatives of the family and threatened to kill the victims if they failed to arrange for the money. The relatives rushed to Galipur and managed to convince the accused to release the woman and the child. After their release, the vic-tim approached Udayagiri Police who nabbed the culprit.

Police said that the family, which was residing in Chamarajanagar earlier, had obtained a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh from the suspect and had cleared Rs 1 lakh but Suhel was pestering the family members to pay the remaining amount. Owing to torture, the family had shifted to Mysuru.
