Prison irregularities a testimony to rampant corruption: Jagadish Shettar

Last Updated 13 July 2017, 21:15 IST

BJP leader Jagadish Shettar on Thursday said findings of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) D Roopa on irregularities in Bengaluru Central Prison is a testimony to rampant corruption in the government.

Speaking to reporters, he said Roopa has stated in her report that the corrupt police at the prison were allowing the inmates access liquor and drugs. Besides, the report by the DIG has proved that the senior officers are at loggerheads. The entire police force has become demoralised because of interference from retired IPS officer and adviser to the Home Minister, Kempaiah, he charged.

Shettar, who is the leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, demanded that the government should come out with a White Paper on illegal mining cases in the state. Though the Congress took out a padayatra from Bengaluru to Ballari in 2010, it did not take action against those involved in illegal mining after coming to power, he said. He accused the ruling Congress of indirectly inciting communal violence in Dakshina Kannada district.
