'I believe I can act really well'

Last Updated 14 July 2017, 19:53 IST

A leading model, Rajveer Singh always wanted to pursue his passion for acting and, perhaps, prove that models can be great actors too. The lad from Haryana has made his Bollywood debut with ‘G Kutta Se’, a film by Rahul Dahiya, based on human emotions and honour killing.

Rajveer will also be seen in a Tamil film titled ‘Indrajith’, which is releasing in August. In a chat with Anushree Agarwal, Rajveer talks about his debut, future projects and more.

Tell us about ‘G Kutta Se’.

It is a story based on the culture of Haryana. It has different elements — human emotions, how women’s opinions don’t matter there and how a father kills his daughter for loving a boy from another caste. The film has done phenomenally well in terms of critics reviews and ratings.

What’s your role in the movie?

I am the main lead, a guy from Haryana. I am the leader of a gang. It’s a grey character who has different emotions towards his family and other people. He just does what he believes in, be it right or wrong.

From a model to an actor...

I used to do modelling in Delhi and have been a part of leading fashion weeks and campaigns. I moved to Mumbai only to become an actor. I attended a few workshops and did theatre. Since I have experienced life in different places and circumstances, I feel I didn’t have to practise much and acting comes naturally to me.

You are a part of Tamil film ‘Indrajith’...

It is an out-and-out action film and I am playing one of the negative leads named ‘Rajvir’. The main guy is Gautham Karthik and the production house is the one which produced ‘Kabali’.

As a model, have you had to consciously keep away from certain foods?

As of now, I am eating eveything. But there was a time when I had to restrict things I ate on a daily basis, particularly Indian sweets like ‘gaajar ka halwa’ and ‘moong dal halwa’ and also ‘pani puri’.

Do you miss food from your hometown?

Of course I do! I miss the ‘gur ka churma’ with that authentic rural flavour, ‘amaranth laddoos’ and ‘mawa barfi’.

What’s your fitness regimen like?

I am a trained martial artiste and also practise calisthe nics and crossfit. I make it a point to dedicate at least two hours to fitness everyday.

What do you do in your leisure time?

History fascinates me. I read a lot of history related stuff and watch documentaries. I also like sports like swimming, tennis and squash. It helps me unwind.

How do you plan to make a name for yourself in acting?

A lot of newcomers want to do only big banner films, even if it’s a small role. For me, I want to do something substantial through which I can show that models can also act well. And I believe I can act really well. I want to be known for both my looks and my work.

Anything in the pipeline?

I am in talks for a Tamil movie and a Telugu movie. I am also doing a web series for Balaji Telefilms and another project by Rahul Dahiya.
