'Eradicate disparity and untouchability'

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Raghupathy Bhat said that the government should take up measures to eradicate disparity and untouchablity in the society. However the current improved status of SC and ST community people is pleasing owing to the increased awareness among them. As many as Rs 8.80 crore has been earmarked for the development of Koraga community in the current budget, he said and demanded that the amount of Rs 50,000 allotted for the construction of houses to Koraga families should be raised to Rs 1 lakh.

He said plans have been chalked out to construct as many as 150 houses in CMC limits and 400 houses in the rural areas for Koragas. Health insurance schemes have been adopted by the Municipality to offer health services to Koragas. Nearly 600 families come under the provisions of the scheme. Each family is entitled to a sum of Rs 30,000, Bhat said. CMC President Dinaker Shetty, District Women and Children Welfare Department Officer Suman and others were present.
