Lovers brutalised in UP, video uploaded on social sites

In yet another act of vigilantism in Uttar Pradesh, two lovers were brutally assaulted in state's Maharajganj district, about 250  kilometres from here, by some youths, who also filmed the entire incident and uploaded it on the social networking sites.
 
The video, which went viral on the social sites, showed the two lovers being repeatedly kicked and beaten with sticks  by a group of people in what appears to be a forested area.
 
It shows the duo crying in pain amid raining blows and pleading with the miscreants to stop. The miscreants, however, showed mercy and continued thrashing them.
 
The footage also shows the youths touching the girl inappropriately several times. One of the youths is seen holding the girl while the other hits her with a stick. The attacker is also seen removing the victim's 'kurti' apparently to inflict more pain by ensuring that the blows land on the flesh.
 
According to the sources the lovers were sitting in a secluded spot in a forest area of Kolhui when they were spotted by some local youths.
 
Sources said that taking a serious view of the incident, senior police officials ordered registration of a case. An FIR was later lodged against unidentified youths.
 
Police said that a massive hunt had been launched to nab the culprits. ''It is a serious matter...the guilty will not be spared,'' said a senior police official in the district.
 
It was not immediately clear if the attackers hailed from the nearby Bansirhakala village. ''We are trying to identify the miscreants,'' the official added. The incident is said to have taken place a few days back.
 
Barely a few days back a video showing molestation of a young girl by a group of youths in Rampur district had gone viral. The incident had triggered outrage. Around a dozen youths were arrested in this connection.
