'Students should be proud of Kannada language'

The schools and colleges should instil pride about Kannada language among the students, Virajpet MLA K G Bopaiah opined.

Inaugurating a felicitation programme organised by Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat, for the students scoring highest marks in Kannada in SSLC and PU examinations, he said that everyone should make pledge to save their mother tongue.

It is saddening to learn that Kannada is not getting the priority within the state. The number of people who speak in Kannada is dwindling, he said.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat district president B S Lokesh Sagar said that the parishat has been organising more and more Kannada programmes to encourage the language.

Students who scored highest marks in Kannada in SSLC and PU examinations, were felicitated on the occasion.

Awards were given away for the winners of Kannada handwriting and speech competitions.

The book ‘Katha Guccha’ was released on the occasion.

Doordarshan anchor Dr Na Someshwara, Working Journalists’ Association president Ajjamada Ramesh Kuttappa, PU Education department deputy director T Swamy were present.
