Several states reel under floods

Jalore and Pali were among the many districts in Rajasthan that continued to reel under unprecedented floods, while the rain-triggered deluge claimed seven lives in West Bengal. 

The army, NDRF and SDRF were busy evacuating people marooned in Rajasthan. The IAF’s MI-17V5 helicopter dropped nearly 6 tonnes of food packets as part of the relief measures.

The state government has announced Rs 1 lakh compensation for the families of those killed in the catastrophe.

In Himachal Pradesh, heavy rain lashed several places in mid and lower hills, as Gaggal, Baijnath and Palampur in Kangra district received 181 mm, 176 mm and 116 mm rain, respectively.

In Uttarakhand, a man was crushed under a boulder in Tehri district, while over 100 roads were blocked by landslides. Major rivers like the Ganga were in spate. The Ganga was flowing near the danger mark in Haridwar.

Maximum temperatures in Haryana and Punjab hovered below normal limits after rain lashed many parts with the joint capital Chandigarh registering a high of 33.5 degrees Celsius. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a maximum of 32 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal after the city received light rain.

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers occurred in parts of Uttar Pradesh while major rivers, especially the Ganga and the Rapti are in spate at several places.

Light to moderate rainfall occurred in parts of Bihar with Patna receiving17.6 mm rain, followed by Purnea 13 mm.

Light to moderate rainfall occurred at a few places in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha region.

Rainfall occurred at most places in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, Lakshadweep and at isolated places in Andhra Pradesh.
