Efforts are on to make Lalbagh safer during Independence Day flower show. More than 100 CCTV cameras will be installed as recommended by the city police. At a meeting with DCP, ACP and Circle inspectors of South division, the horticulture department has proposed to instal the CCTV cameras for the safety of visitors.

The annual flower show will be held on the theme ‘Kuvempu Malenadu’ to commemorate the 50th year since Rashtrakavi Kuvempu was awarded the Jnanpith award for his seminal work ‘Sri Ramayana Darshanam’.

Joint director of the horticulture department Dr Jagadish said, “Four lakh tourists visit the Lalbagh flower show annually. This year’s theme revolves around Rashtrakavi Kuvempu, his house at Kuppalli, which has been converted into a museum. Kavishaila, the hill near his childhood home, where the poet drew inspiration for many of his works, will also be recreated in the garden.”

“There will be 100 CCTV cameras, including 85 permanent and 15 temporary ones. A  police checkpost will be built near the Glass House, from where all the cameras will be controlled,” he added.

Dr Jagadish explained, “KSRP battalions will be present at all the four main gates, near the Glass House and main gates. We will instal metal detectors to check all individuals. Five ambulances, one fire vehicle, two mini-clinics with emergency wards, with first aid kits and five customer care centres with medical officers will be set up.”
