The divisional level Congress convention, to be held in the city today, has turned the main roads into an eyesore as advertisement hoardings, flex boards, banners and buntings of the party leaders have been erected by violating norms.

Much to the chagrin of residents, the flexes, with photographs of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister A Manju, leaders G Parameshwara and others have mushroomed at all the circles and junctions of the city.

The buntings and flexes are causing inconvenience to the two-wheeler riders as they sway and snap falling on moving vehicles. Also, buntings have been dumped on the footpaths of roads.

Not very long ago, Congress party members, who are in the opposition in the City Municipal Council, cried hoarse about maintaining cleanliness in the city and did not miss an opportunity during meetings to raise the issue of illegal flexes.

All set for the meet

All arrangements have been made for the Congress convention to be held at Malnad Engineering College premises here on Monday. Around 2,000 people are expected to attend the convention. Flexes of AICC president Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, state incharge K C Venugopal and others have been erected on the premises which has a seating arrangement for accommodating 2,000 people. SP Rahul Kumar and staff have made tight security arrangements.

Meanwhile, the absence of district unit president B Shivaram’s photo on the main flex has disappointed his supporters. They raised an objection, and senior leaders had to intervene to pacify them.
