State hikes milk price after 2 yrs

“In 1999, toned milk was Rs 10 per litre, Rs 12 in 2002, Rs 13 in 2003, Rs 14 in 2006 and Rs 16 in 2007. After 2007 we did not revise milk prices. The time has come to go in for an increase,” Reddy said.

Defending his decision, the KMF chief said there were many cases of farmers selling their products to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra for good returns. Even traders were selling toned milk at a huge margin in the neighbouring states, Reddy said.

The KMF also intends to revise rates of  its other products. “In two or three days we will announce the rates of our other products,” federation sources said. Other than milk and curd, the KMF has a range of products like butter milk, tetra pack milk, cold milk, ghee, butter, cheese, paneer, Pedha, Mysore Pak, Dharwad Peda, Kunda, Barfi etc.

Holding that he was receiving a lot of queries from abroad, the KMF chairman said, “We are supplying 38,000 litres of tetra-pack milk everyday with a brand name Good Life to Singapore. We have received demand from Dubai, which wants us to supply 35,000 litres of milk everyday but we are ready to export 25,000 litres milk a day. Bangladesh wants us to supply at least Rs one lakh litres of Good Life everyday.”
