Kashmir witnesses close to 200 terror incidents this year

 Jammu and Kashmir witnessed close to 200 terror incidents this year so far in which 115 terrorists were killed while 39 security personnel lost the life.

Another five security personnel had lost lives in ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

This was disclosed by Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir in Lok Sabha on Tuesday during Question Hour on queries by TDP MP from Guntur Jayadev Galla.

Altogether there were 946 terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir between 2014 and July 2017 in which 483 terrorists were killed while 260 were arrested. The casualty in security forces was 207 during this period.

According to the statistics provided by the MHA in the Lower House, there were 194 terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir this year till July. During this period, 44 terrorists were arrested.

Last year, there were 322 incidents in which 150 terrorists were killed and 79 arrested. Security forces lost 82 personnel in the incident.

The year 2016 saw an increase in numbers compared to 2015 when there were 208 terror incidents in which 108 terrorists were killed and 67 arrested.

In 2014, there were 222 incidents in which 110 terrorists were killed and 70 arrested while 47 security personnel lost their lives.

Casualties suffered by security forces due to ceasefire violations was three in 2014, 10 in 2015, 13 in 2016 and five till this year until July.

To a question on the Islamic State, Ahir said the terror outfit is using various internet based social media platforms to propagate its ideology.

"However, very few individuals have come to notice of the central and state security agencies who have joined ISIS. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the state's police have also registered cases against IS sympathisers and have arrested around 90 accused so far," Ahir said.

Further, he said, the central and state agencies are monitoring the cyber space and taking action as per law wherever required.
