DMK seeks floor test to prove the majority of AIADMK govt

Amid MLAs, supporting TTV Dhinakaran, submitting a letter to the Tamil Nadu Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao and seeking the removal of the chief minister, the Opposition DMK urged the governor to direct Edppadi K Palaniswami to prove his majority in the Assembly.

"Consequent upon the identical letters given by the MLAs today expressing lack of confidence in the chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami an unprecedented constitutional crisis erupted in which the ruling government has lost the majority", DMK working president Stalin said in a letter to the Governor.

Referring the present Tamil Nadu's situation to Karnataka, Stalin said, "In same consequence, the then governor of neighbouring state Karnataka HR Bharadwaj had directed former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa to prove his majority in the House. Any inordinate delay in asking the chief minister to prove his majority in the instant case will pave the way for a continuance of an unconstitutional government and it will destabilize the democratic norms".

Asking the governor to direct Palaniswamy to prove his majority in the Assembly immediately, Stalin said, "Kindly uphold the constitutional norms and the parameters laid down in the famous judgement in SR Bommai case by the Supreme Court of India".
