Udupi Cong stages protest, flays BJP

Speaking on the occasion, Udupi District Congress President M A Gafoor urged Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to reply in connection with the issues related to the statements made by Energy Minister K S Eshwarappa against his own party.

Eshwarappa had demanded the BJP leaders to constitute a committee of senior party leaders, who do not hold any position in the party; and to find out the reasons for the low turnout in the Lok Sabha election. Eshwarappa also had qeustioned the aptness of fielding Yeddyurappa’s son B S Raghavendra as a candidate in Shimoga. “Yeddyurappa should answer to Eshwarappa’s allegations,” Gafoor urged.

He alleged that the BJP government had started promoting violence and malpractices in the State from the very first day of its inception. “The pro-people development schemes announced by the government has not been implemented. Follow up actions were also taken to execute the announced programmes,” he charged.

Reacting to BJP leaders’ charges of UPA government neglecting the State by not releasing sufficient funds for the development of the State, Gafoor said “BJP government is indulged in levelling false and baseless allegations against Congress led UPA government.”

“The Centre had already released Rs 1,500 crore to the State. However, Rs 750 crore pending with the State government has not been utilized so far.

“The UPA government has released Rs 530 crores under the NREG scheme and it has also allotted funds for the upgradation of National Highways all over the State,” he said. BJP government has failed to take measures towards keeping its promises even after the completion of one year, he said adding that Yedyurappa is accountable to answer the public for the administrative break down in the State.

Udupi Block Congress Persident Diwaker Kunder, Brahmavar Block Congress President Mallika Balakrishna, State Youth Congress Secretary Amrith Shenoy, General Secretary Janardhan Bhandarkar, Treasurer Harish Kini, K P Shetty, Krishnamurthy and others were present.
