A senior official in the department of Ayush is understood to have shot off a letter to a secretary in the sports ministry regarding this, sources said.

The official said in the letter that the players could have been treated by doctors in India itself. Both Gambhir and Nehra went to Colombo for ayurvedic treatment last month. The players were special guests of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and were treated by Eliyantha White.

Gambhir missed Delhi Daredevils' last two matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a hamstring injury while Nehra is yet to play in the IPL because of a rib injury.

The BCCI has issued a show cause notice to Delhi Daredevils team management for sending its captain Gambhir and pacer Nehra to Sri Lanka for ayurvedic treatment of their injuries without BCCI's prior permission.
