Moderate rain expected in city for two days

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall for the next two days in the city. The city, till Thursday night received 28.7 mm, while HAL recorded 13.4 mm.

According to data from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), the highest rainfall was reported in parts of Bengaluru North from Machihalli at 35.5 mm since Wednesday night.

At least four trees came crashing down because of rain in HAL 2nd Stage, near Modi Hospital in Mahalakshmipuram, Ramaiah Layout in Seshadripuram and BTM 1st Stage.

L Ramesh Babu, IMD-Bengaluru director-in-charge said that till Wednesday evening, the systems indicated heavy rainfall over the city. But now, the upper air cyclonic circulation which was near coastal Andhra Pradesh, has advanced towards north of Andhra. So, the intensity of rainfall will come down. “The city will receive moderate rainfall (up to 3 cm) during the next two days. The city will experience thunder showers during evening and night hours but its intensity will be less than that what was experienced on Wednesday and August 15 and 16,” he said.

Many panic-stricken people from across the city have been calling up IMD office seeking details of the rainfall and the forecast. The IMD officials added that many have become aware of the department now and are keen on being informed.

Babu added that the city has received 397.7 mm rainfall already so far. The monsoon season still has a month to go. He said that heavy rainfall could occur in September as it is the withdrawal period during which winds are strong.

The normal rainfall for the city from June 1 till date (August 24) is 338.6 mm, but so far the city has recorded 313.6 mm.
