A team of JD(S) leaders led by party state president H D Kumaraswamy will be visiting Israel to study innovative agriculture model in the desert country.

Kumaraswamy, who has announced that he will adopt the Israeli model of farming if his party comes to power after next year’s Assembly elections, will be travelling in Israel for a week, where he will hold interactions with the agricultural universities and progressive farmers. The JD(S) team is scheduled to leave for Israel on August 26. Party leaders Basavaraj Horatti, Appaji Gowda,
C S Puttaraju and K S Rangappa are part of the team.

Kumaraswamy said that the idea was to bring back smart solutions like drip and micro-irrigation adopted by Israel, so that Karnataka farmers, who are enduring acute drought conditions, could benefit from the same. The team will be visiting the cities of Haifa, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv to study the irrigation system, wastewater utility, greenhouse, packaging systems of agricultural products, poultry, aqua and dairy farming. While the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology will impart the technical know-how, the Israeli Embassy will help the team with logistical issues.
