Chorus grows for CM's resignation

The Congress and the CPM on Saturday demanded the dismissal of the Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana, accusing it of failing to act on prior warning and avert violence in the state.

The Congress has also demanded imposition of President’s Rule in the state.

“The Khattar government has failed completely. The only way to control this violence is to dismiss the Haryana government and impose President’s Rule,” Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters.

“This is the third instance of the BJP doing lowly politics over dead bodies,” he said, adding that the Congress is appealing to the public to maintain peace. The CPM also demanded the dismissal of the Khattar government.

The party said the BJP-led government did not take adequate preventive measures despite widespread apprehension of trouble and violence.

This “serious” dereliction of duty by the state government created a situation of a complete breakdown of law and order, the CPM Polit Bureau said.

The state government and the chief minister “cannot remain in office” and the chief minister must be “immediately sacked”, it said.

“Earlier it was reported that the chief minister and the BJP MLAs visited, this ‘godman’, to seek his blessings. This reflects the sympathetic manner in which the BJP sought to deal with the situation,” it said.

The CPM said this was the third occasion when the state government has failed to protect the lives of people and damage to public and private properties.

“It happened in the controversy over Rampal Case, the Jat agitation and now this development...,” the Polit Bureau said.
