A 24-year-old rowdy who was on the run, was shot in the leg by the HAL police after a chase in Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar on Friday.

The suspect, Tufael Pasha, faces 24 criminal cases and was out on bail. The police had information that he had assaulted and robbed three people including a software engineer.

According to the police, on Monday, Tufael robbed one Raghavendra, who was chatting with his friends in a car near HAL market. An injured Raghavendra, son of a head constable and a PSI aspirant, chased Tufael, who managed to escape by robbing a biker of his vehicle. Tufael then rode to Kumbalagodu and robbed another man before returning to HAL on Friday.

HAL police, based on a tip-off, intercepted Tufael near BEML convention centre. But he tried to escape by attacking two police constables. Head constable Kantharaj was injured in the attack. HAL inspector Sadiq Pasha, after firing in the air, shot at Tufael’s leg to immobilise him.

The rowdy was injured in his left leg and was admitted to Bowring Hospital. Raghavendra, who was injured in his shoulder, was admitted to a private hospital where he is said to be out of danger.
