I G Road widening works begin

The eviction of sub jail which was constructed way back in 1890 near bus stand was started in the afternoon on Friday.

PWD Assistant Made Gowda, Junior Engineer Basavaraj offered pooja to JCB before starting the eviction work.

District administration will evict sub jail, KSRTC bus stand compound, Urdu school compound, DSMS building, veterinary department building, stalls of CMC in shandy market for widening the road. PWD officials have already marked 40 to 50 feet land for widening the road. Many had opined that the eviction of sub jail building will take more time. However, within one hour, the jail walls were cleared, said the JCB driver.

Public were seen watching curiously the road widening works. Many felt that the widening of road was necessary. Some even entered the jail and had a glimpse of the jail.

April 15 deadline

“As per the direction of Deputy Commissioner, the government buildings will be evicted, for widening the road by 40 feet. This will include even CMC stalls. About 20 buildings will be evicted. If CMC delays the eviction of its buildings, then PWD will evict after April 15,” said PWD Assistant Executive Engineer Made Gowda.

Expressing happiness over eviction drive, Kumar said “Its good that district administration has decided to widen the roads. Some of the buildings were causing inconvenience to the smooth flow of the traffic,” he said.
