When filmmaker Sunil Kumar approached actor Kiran Srinivas a year ago with the script of ‘Onthara Bannagalu’, the latter didn’t immediately grab the offer but took time to study the script and know the director in person.

A conviction about the style of storytelling and strength of narration was what clinched the role for him.

‘Onthara Bannagalu’, Sunil Kumar’s debut project, will feature a host of young actors portraying characters that are similar to youngsters living in the city.

Kiran goes by the character name of Arjun in the film. “I play the character of a young man who is stuck in a lot of issues. He has his own problems and challenges to deal with. During this time he gets to know that his colleague too faces a similar situation. The story is about how young people deal with their problems,” explains Kiran.

About what got him to accept the project, Kiran says, “I liked the style of storytelling and the way the director has used Kannada language in the film. It’s a story about how the upper middle class deal with their problems. Some of the issues discussed in the film are relevant to our times,” he says.

The actor was also impressed with Sunil’s sensible and sensitive approach to the whole project.
“The project has a good vibe to it. A sensible director can tell a mediocre story in an intelligent way but a mediocre director will spoil a good story,” he adds.

Asked if he was nervous about working with a young crew and a new director, Kiran says, “Working with a young crew is sheer joy because there is an appetite and curiosity to learn something new.”
He also feels that the audience is bored of the tried and tested formula of filmmaking and yearns for something different.

While Kiran’s work in Kannada is going great guns, he has also started working on a Hindi project called, ‘Chitrakut’.

“The film is about relationship, love and the different aspects of the same. It‘s about four people who fight it out to strike a balance between their personal and professional lives,” he says.
