'Hellboy' reboot actor steps down from role over Whitewashing

The reboot of the Hellboy film series, titled 'Rise of the Blood Queen' has lost one of its starring actors over a Whitewashing controversy.

Ed Skrien, who was cast as Major Ben Daimio, a character from the Hellboy comics, announced that he is stepping down from the role, as he has learnt that Daimio is a character of mixed Asian descent and Skrien, being Caucasian, is not culturally suitable for taking the role on.

"Rise of the Blood Queen" has already been under some scrutiny by fans, given that series veterans, Guillermo Del Toro and Ron Perlman, would not return to direct and star, respectively. The reboot is being helmed by Neil Marshall of 'Game of Thrones' and stars David Harbour of 'Stranger Things' as the titular Hellboy. Ian McShane of 'John Wick' as Professor Broom, Hellboy's adoptive father and Milla Jovovich as the titular antagonist, the Queen of Blood.

Skrien posted a full statement, detailing the reasons for his departure, on his Twitter.
