The state BJP on Wednesday demanded disqualification of eight MLCs for  submitting false information to cast vote in Bengaluru mayoral election last year.

A “factual report” submitted by BBMP to the office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) had found that the MLCs submitted false information to get their names included in the Bengaluru electoral rolls and vote in the mayoral election last year. DH had run a story after accessing the report on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, BJP leader R Ashoka said the MLCs had violated the provisions of the Representation of People Act, 1951 and their act amounted to criminal abetment as per section 191, 192 of Indian Penal Code. He also demanded a CBI probe into the entire episode and criminal cases should be filed against the MLCs.

Ashoka charged that applications submitted by the MLCs to get their names registered as voters of Bengaluru were incomplete, but yet had been processed. He demanded disciplinary action against the officials who processed the applications.

R B Thimmapur, Allum Veerabhadrappa, Raghu Achar, N S Boseraju, S Ravi (all Congress), C R Manohar and Appaji Gowda (JD-S) and M D Lakshminarayana (Independent) are the eight MLCs.

Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who was denied a vote in the 2016 Mayoral election on the ground that he arrived late, also demanded disqualification of the eight MLCs and nullification of G Padmavathi’s election as mayor. “What is the legality of decisions taken by a mayor who was elected illegally,” he asked.
