Rain lashes Kalaburagi dist

Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Kalaburagi district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Heavy but intermittent rain lashed Chincholi taluk while light showers poured over Chittapur, Aland and Sedam taluks even on Tuesday.

Many low-lying areas were inundated and rainwater stagnated in fields affecting the crops mainly tur. In Kalaburagi city, rainwater inundated low-lying areas and stagnated on the roads causing inconvenience to people.

Rainfall details
In the 24 hours period (ending on 8:30 am on Tuesday), the district has received an average rainfall of 8.80 mm. Among the taluks, Chincholi, has received the highest rainfall of 19.6 mm followed by Chittapur 8.8 mm, Aland 8.3 mm, Afzalpur 8.2 mm, Kalaburagi 7.7 mm, Sedam 6.3 mm and Jewargi 2.4 mm.

As per the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, Chincholi taluk has received 66.5 mm rain till 1:45 pm on Tuesday (after 8:30 am and till afternoon).

Effects
Following the downpour, inflow into many streams and rivulets in Chincholi taluks has increased.

The sowing of Bengal gram has been delayed due to the rain and high moisture content in soil in the taluk.

Due to the rainfall in the past two days, tur crop has turned yellow in Ainapur and surrouding villages in the taluk.

“However, the showersis a boon for rabi crops like jowar,” said farmer Ashok Patil from the taluk.

Water-level
The water level at Nagarala dam stands at 490.7 meters against the full reservior-level (FRL) of 491 meters , said Assistant Executive Engineer Krishna Angihotri. The inflow into the Chandrampalli dam in the taluk is 393 cusec.

However, the water-level at the dam stands at 1600 ft against FRL of 1609 ft. In Chittapur taluk, rainwater stagnated in many fields and severely affected tur crop.
