Call to embrace Internet of Things

Belagavi: Nitin Awasthi, Vice President Technical, Apsis Solutions, Bengaluru, expressed the need of Internet of Things (IoT). Its recent innovations and applications in various domains like home automation, industrial automation, space exploration, agriculture, healthcare was endless more and more devices are getting connected to the internet.

Awasthi, inaugurated three-day workshop on ‘Microchips Internet of Thing(IoT), An Extreme Engineering’ organised by S G Balekundri Institute of Technology Department of Electronics & Communications Engineering, on Friday.

He said, IoT brings intelligence to everyday devices. Imagine one was leaving the office, simply can start the geyser through smartphone, so that water gets heated before reaching home. One can even monitor the temperature at when they are away. Similarly all the day to day life home appliances like fan, fridge, oven, AC, washing machines, lights can be controlled smartly hence lot of power can be saved and also makes life more comfortable and secure.

Sooner security guards may be replaced by smart cameras which alert the police in case of break. Most importantly IoT thrives on energy efficiency. Currently extensive research work was being carried out on IoT and will have prominent share in the market; hence plenty of job opportunities are available for the graduates, Awasthi stated.

Principal Dr S S Salimath in his presidential remarks mentioned the importance of the IoT and its applications in various domains including domestic, mechanical, health care, civil etc.

He stressed that how it helps and alleviates life of differently abled persons and suggested to make best use of the workshop and benefit the society by implementing it in real time.

Students from various colleges like PESITM, Shivamogga, AGMRCET, Varoor, KLECET

Belagavi, Angadi College Belagavi registered for the event.

Workshop is being coordinated by Dr Ravi Yadahalli, Prof Arati B S and Prof Kiran Nandi.
