Acting Chief Justice H G Ramesh has recused from hearing a PIL filed against Ramachandrapura Mutt seer Raghaveshwara Bharthi.

Justice H G Ramesh has stated that senior counsel B V Acharya, who has appeared for the seer, is his senior and he has practised under him.

A public interest litigation has been filed by Edurkala Ishwara Bhat and others seeking directions to regulate the mutt and other mutts in the state by passing a regulatory statute by the sate legislature.

The petitioners have contended that the seer has transgressed and violated all norms prescribed by the scriptures and is an accused in several matters.

They have sought directions to appoint a committee to suggest the successor to the Mutt and to manage the administration of the mutt.
