A s the rain gods descend on the city with a vengeance, the cold bleak weather matches the mood of most Bengalureans. But as they say, life is much better after some good food so head to ‘Grubbery’ in New BEL Road to cheer up your spirits and your palate.

The cafe is a bit inconspicuous even though it is on the main road. Keep your sights and hopes high as it is on the first floor and has an open-air plan that gives a good view of the surroundings.

Coming to the food, feel free to experiment as pretty much everything is a safe bet here. The all day breakfast has options ranging from burgers, eggs, pancakes and waffles. The waffles deserve a special shout out and are made to perfection though the pancakes need not be your first preference. The sides include options like ‘Chicken sausage’, ‘Chicken ham’, baked beans, toast and so on.

“The all-day breakfast is one of the favourites in the menu,” says Santosh B C, who is one of the franchisers of the place along with Rahul Sherigar. “In the soups, the ‘Brocolli soup’ as well as the ‘Barley and spinach soup’ is a hit among the customers,” he says.

Apart from a wide ranging selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian soups, people looking for some healthy options can also choose from their salads. Next in the menu are the ‘Short bites and large bites’. The ‘Grilled Mushrooms with Mozzarella’ is a delicious dish made of fresh and juicy mushrooms topped with right amount of cheese and garnish and all the flavours complement each other in perfect harmony. The ‘Jalapeno poppers’ are a great mix of crispy outsides and cheesy molten insides. Non-vegetarians can give the ‘BBQ chicken wings’ and ‘Chicken skewers with peanut sauce’ a try though the latter can be a bit more spicy.

Coming to the burgers, the ‘Crispy chicken burger’ and ‘Crispy prawn burger’ command a fan following among the regulars there. For green-lovers, the ‘Veggie cheese burst burger’ would be a good option with the fresh buns and crunchy veggies. Filled with tangy and sweet sauces, these burgers are filling and lip smacking. In the sandwich section, the favourites are the ‘Bombay grilled cheese sandwich’ as well as the barbeque sandwiches, points out Santosh.

The mains are still to come. The ‘Malaysian Grill Fish with Malaysian Curry and steamed rice’ and ‘Kung pao chicken served with fried rice and egg’ are some fine examples of Pan Asian cuisine and are a good mix of aromas and flavours. For vegetarians, the ‘Vegetable garlic noodles’ and ‘Vegetable stir fry served with garlic rice or noodles’ are good options. There is also a wide variety of pizzas, pastas and steaks to choose from.

Then comes the best part of the meal- dessert. ‘Grubbery’ will satisfy even the most demanding of sweet tooths with their selection of brownies, cakes, tarts and Sundaes as well as juices and shakes. From the ‘Peanut butter shake’ and ‘Oreo shake’ to the Red Velvet and Blackcurrant versions, every single shake is blended to perfection — neither to sweet nor too heavy.

The ‘Money Bar Ice Cream Sundae’ has a fruity flavour and highly recommended. Among the iced teas, the ‘Peach apricot iced tea’ is our favourite.

‘Grubbery’ is located on 199, KGE Layout, Mathikere, New BEL Road.
