Telugu Cartoonotsavam in city from Oct 28
From legendary to amateur cartoonists, view the best of Telugu cartoons at the Indian Cartoon Gallery off MG Road from October 28 to November 18 near Kids Kemp.

The Indian Institute of Cartoonists and a group of Telugu cartoonists called ‘Heartoonists’ will organise ‘Telugu Cartoonotsavam’ to celebrate artists from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The exhibition will have one work each from 120 senior and amateur cartoonists and will be a mix of political, general and social themes. The works of five late legends such as Bapu will also be displayed. Works of Ragati Pandari, a popular cartoonist and the first woman cartoonist in Telugu, will also be up for viewing.

“Many Telugu cartoonists such as Sekhar and Satyamurthy have had exhibitions with IIC in Bengaluru. Then the senior Telugu cartoonist Surendranath who lives in Bengaluru suggested having a collective exhibition of all cartoonists of the language and region,” said V G Narendra, managing trustee of IIC.

The ‘Heartoonists’ group was formed last year with cartoonists from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. “We consider Talisetti Ramarao the father of Telugu cartoons. After him, Bapu is an influential figure in modern Telugu cartoons. His work is very popular and many try to imitate his style,” said Hari Krishna, a member and organiser.

Some of the cartoonists whose works will be displayed include Shankar Pamarthy, Surendra and Jayadev Babu.

The artists plan to conduct workshops for younger, amateur cartoonists to interact and learn from seniors in the field. Eight senior artists will give tips on making the best use of photoshop, digital cartooning, and creating perspective.
