'Create awareness among SC/STs on edn'

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, MLA Raghupathy Bhat said there is a need to create an awareness among Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe on education. Education will bring in instrumental change in their approach towards life. The community can be brought to the mainstream of the society only through facilitating them through higher education. People’s representatives should make an attempt to realise the dreams of Ambedkar. His ideologies were mainly focused on education and equality,” he added.

As many as 22 Koraga community members were given the title deeds for 10 cents land each on the occasion. Measures will be taken to ensure to distribute more lands to the community members. As many as 8.80 crore has been allotted for the district in the current fiscal budget for providing more amenities to Koraga community. Nearly 400 beneficiaries in the rural areas and 150 in the CMC limits have been identified under housing scheme. Plans have been chalked out to entitle the Koraga community members for the health insurance scheme of Rs 30,000 each for a family.

Talks are being held with KMC Manipal. About 600 to 700 families will be benefited under this scheme, he added. Delivering a talk on Dr Ambedkar, Government First Grade College Tenkaneediyur, Kannada Professor Dr Nikethana said Ambedkar was harbinger of equality and education. He said inequality derails the development process of the nation. He propagated strongly against casteism and campaigned for emancipation of women. Ambedkar’s ideologies reflected self-reliance and democratic thoughts, she added. DC Hemalatha, ZP President Gladys Almeida, CEO Pranesh Rao and others were present.
