Infy reduces headcount for second consecutive quarter

Reflecting the slowdown that has hit technology sector in India, IT bellwether Infosys has reduced its headcount for the second consecutive quarter ended September 30, 2017, while justifying it with the higher productivity.

IT major has reduced its headcount for the quarter by 0.06 %. The Bengaluru-based IT major that employed 1,98,553 people in the beginning of the quarter, now employs 198,440, 113 less.

Earlier in the first quarter of the current financial year the company had reduced its head count by 0.9% (1,811 people), from 2,00,364 at the beginning of the year to 1,98,553 employees on June 30, 2017.

Cumulatively now, Infosys has reduded its workforce by 1,924 employees in the first six months of this year, from 2,00,364 to 1,98,553.

Earlier last week, Wipro revealed that its workforce was down by 3,031 (1.8%) to 1,63,759 at the end of the second quarter ended September 30, 2016.

Company’s CFO MD Ranganath in a reply to question from DH justified the decrease in the headcount by pointing at the increase in the efficiency per employee.
