Architect of Constitution remembered

Along with Dr Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, Babu Jagjivan Ram’s birth anniversary was also celebrated. A procession with the portraits of both the leaders drew much attention.
Elected representatives, officials and hundreds of people  participated in the programme organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and the Department of Social Welfare. District In Charge and Higher Education Minister Aravind Limbavali, who was supposed inaugurate the celebrations by garlanding Ambedkar’s statue, was absent at the event. In his place, Legislator Varthur Prakash inaugurated the celebrations and paid floral tribute  to the architect of the Indian Constitution.

MLC V R Sudarshan, Deputy Commissioner N Prabhakar, Superintendent of Police Dr K Thyagarajan, Additional SP Phanidra Singh, Assistant Commissioner R S Peddappaiah, City Municipal Council president K N Madhusudan Kumar, Vice president V K Rajesh, Zilla Panchayat president G Mangamma Muniswamy, member Balaji Chennaiah, deputy secretary Lakshminarayana, Tahsildhar S M Mangala, District Social Welfare Officer Dr Patalappa and several other district-level officials were present. Representatives of various private organisations also participated.

Procession
A tableaux procession was flagged off by Varthur Prakash at the Nachiketha Nilaya premises in the afternoon.The procession passed through Ammavaripete Road, Kalammagudi Road, New Bus Terminal, Doomlight Circle, Bangarpet Circle and reached the students’ hostel, cultural programmes were to be held under a pendal. However, due sudden rains the programmes had to be wrapped up quickly.
Prayers were offered by Taluk Panchayat president V B Udayshankar at the TP premises in the morning.In Charge Executive Officer K S Nagaraja Gowda and TP officials participated.

Private organisations
Members of the Deenabandhu Seva Samsthe had organised a blood donation camp at the District Hospital to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanthi. Puttaraju, Pandit Munivenkatappa, Nagesh, Krishnamurthy, Ranganath, Dheeraj, Suman, Guruprasad and Rajakishore participated.

Jayanagar’s Dr B R Ambedkar Navachethana Yuvakara Sangha took out of procession with the portraits of Dr Ambedkar and babu Jagjeevanram. Narayana Swamy, Ravi Kumar, Dr Chandrashekar, Narayanappa, Vijay Kumar, Manjunath, T Venkatesh, Ravi, Revanna and Damodhar participated.A cultural programme was organised at the Postgraduate students’ hostel in Jayanagar. Folk singer Picchalli Srinivas, Dr V Nagaraj and critic Dr D Dominic took part in the programme.
