Sidelined by party, BJP legislator threatens to resign

A BJP legislator from Amethi has threatened to resign in protest against alleged non-cooperation from the bureaucracy and interference of a senior UP minister in his Assembly constituency.

Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, an MLA from Tiloi Assembly seat in Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, minced no words in venting his ire on the officials and the minister, who represented another Assembly constituency in Amethi.

Singh, who met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath here on Wednesday, said he would soon hold a public meeting in his constituency to decide his future course of action.

“The chief minister has assured me that he will look into the issues… let us see,” Singh told reporters after meeting Adityanath.

However, sources close to Singh said he was sore at being sidelined by his party and the alleged interference of Suresh Pasi, a minister of state in the Yogi cabinet, in his constituency.

The development, that comes amid all-out attempts by the BJP to wrest Amethi from Rahul, is certain to give the saffron party a headache and the party sources said senior leaders were trying to placate Singh.
