The police have registered a case of sexual harassment against two men who misbehaved and assaulted a woman and a few youths who came to her rescue in north-east Bengaluru on Thursday.

The woman, in her late thirties, and her minor son, ran a pushcart food outlet near the New Vivekananda School in Sahakarnagar, the police said. Police said the two men approached the woman and asked if she sold cigarettes. They left and returned after some time. On the pretext of buying food, one of them started touching her inappropriately. Even as she was trying to push him away, he continued with his advances. "He even pinched her waist and groped her," said an eyewitness Bharath, who is the complainant.

Bharath was among a few youths who warned the duo against their behaviour. The duo then started assaulting the youths, leaving Bharath with a slash injury on his ear. Around eight people, including Bharath, then managed to overpower the two, gave them a sound thrashing before handing them over to the Kodigehalli police. In the melee, the woman and her son too sustained injuries. The two men were booked under IPC section 354 - assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty and voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
