Energy Minister D K Shivakumar met JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy on Friday and obtained his signature to a Legislative Assembly committee report on irregularities in the purchase of power between 2005 and 2013.

The report will be submitted to the Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad on October 30. Kumaraswamy is a member of the House committee and Shivakumar is its chairperson.

The House panel was formed in September 2014 after Kumaraswamy, during the Assembly session, demanded a probe into "reckless" purchase of high-cost power. In fact, Kumaraswamy had resigned from the committee as he was not sure if the probe would be a fair one under Shivakumar. His resignation was not approved and hence, his signature was necessary to finalise the report.

Speculation is rife that the government could use the findings of the report to target BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa, who was then the chief minister, and Shobha Karandlaje, who was then the Energy minister.

Shivakumar, who met Kumaraswamy at his JP Nagar residence, also enquired about his health.
