The operations, which include houselisting, housing census and national public register, in the first phase will continue till June 1 across the State. The enumerators took the Governor’s signature on the form, in which personal details of the Governor and his wife Prafullatha were entered.

Addressing media on the occasion, Bhardwaj said general census was an important task as it was necessary to manage the population of the country and assess food, shelter, clothing and other requirements. The successful conduct of the programme would help plan programmes for the welfare of the State.

Chief Minister Yeddyurappa was the second individual to be enumerated. He appealed to the public to cooperate with the enumerators by providing accurate information when they (enumerators) visit the houses.

The Directorate has divided Bangalore into many blocks and each block has been assigned to a group of enumerators, who have been asked to familiarise themselves with the area for two to three days and begin enumeration later. Each enumerator will have to enumerate 120 to 150 houses in 45 days.
