Unable to remit his fees demanded by a private polytechnic college for obtaining transfer certificate, a student in Coimbatore city in Tamil Nadu sat in front of district collector office and sought alms.

Ashok, who is from a poor family, had applied to seek transfer certificate for pursuing higher education. The student alleged that the college had refused to issue the certificate and demanded Rs 70,000 from Ashok as pending fees.

Ashok also claimed that the fees demanded was more than what the state government has prescribed. Since he could not take up higher course due to the non-issuance of transfer certificate, Ashok sought public help.

A placard around his neck read "I do not have money to pay. Please give alms to pay to a private college which is seeking huge money for a certificate".

However, police came to the spot after receiving a complaint and took Ashok into custody for interrogation.
