Hardik refuses security cover

Patel quota stir leader Hardik Patel on Monday refused police protection.

"When our youth were being beaten up and we wanted security, there was no police protection. If they give police protection to the people, it is enough. I don't need any police protection," Hardik told reporters.

"They basically want to know who is Hardik meeting, where is he going and who come to meet Hardik," the Patel leader said.

Hardik said he had not sought police protection and that the security personnel arrived at his residence stating that there was an order from the higher-ups.

"I have limited space in my vehicle and I am not sure of my meals. How do I accommodate security personnel in my car and feed them?" Hardik said, adding that if the police accompany him in their separate vehicle and can arrange for their own meals, he has no objection.

BJP spokesperson I K Jadeja said, "Security was given based on the situation arising out of the electoral environment. However, if he does not want security, he has to complete certain formalities."
