A student of University of Hyderabad in Gachibowli was critically injured after allegedly jumping from the third floor of his  hostel building, 30 minutes past midnight.

Birbal Koizara (20), son of Birbal Deborma from Tripura, is a second year student in MA Language Science.

On hearing  a sound, Birbal's hostel mates rushed to the spot and immediately shifted him to a  medical room. Later, he was moved to Care Hospital in Gachibowli.

Birbal has been treated with  head injury and fractured legs. While it is still not clear what exactly happened,  officials said the student jumped from the building due to  personal issue.

According to Gachibowli police, Birbal jumped from the hostel building and suffered severe head injury. A case has been registered. Birbal's family has been informed about the incident, police said.

The UoH was under national spotlight following the suicide of research scholar Rohith Vemula last year. On January 17, 15 days after he was expelled from the hostel along with four other Dalit researchers, Vemula committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling fan with the blue banner of Ambedkar Student Association (ASA). The students including Vemula were denied entry into the hostel and permission to gather following a scuffle between ASA members and ABVP leader N Susheel Kumar.
