'I am open about my personal life'

Coming from an illustrious family to getting signed up by one of the biggest production houses, Risheeka Singh has all the traits that’s required for a big launch into stardom.

    But her journey hasn’t been easy. For someone who always believed in giving her 100 per cent in everything she does, Risheeka first ventured into fashion designing. But she soon gave into her true calling — films.  She went to Mumbai, which helped her launch her career. “When you come from a filmi background, opportunities come easy but that does not mean you don’t work hard towards your role. Films were always at the back of my mind and I want to first train myself and then zero in on something,” says Risheeka, whose father is the well-known director Rajendra Singh Babu.

Advice is something that she gets in plenty, but the one special advice she has got thus far, apart from family, has been from her friend-cum-actress Rakshita and her childhood idol Malashree, who is also producing Risheeka’s first film. “Malashree maam is one actress who has been able to fit into any role and excel in it. She has been helping me get into the skin of the character,” she adds.      

Unlike many newcomers in the industry, Risheeka’s approach towards choosing roles, overcoming hurdles and handling the pressures in the industry are quite different. For one, her launch movie, Kanteerva, will see her in a glamourous role where she will be seen  sharing screen space with Duniya Vijay and Shubha Punja. “It may sound cliched when I say my role is that of a bubbly girl. But in this movie I am actually playing the role of a talkative girl,” she laughs and adds, “I don’t mind doing glamourous roles. But glamourous does not always mean ‘Western’. My role portrays the life of a normal girl who laughs and even cries.” When it comes to link ups and handling rumours she says, “Today, a celebrity owes it to his or her audience to tell everything about themselves. I am open about my personal life and when I do start dating someone I wouldn’t lie about it. Instead I will tell the whole world about it,” she says candidly.

Apart from versatile roles, Risheeka looks forward to the many challenges like breaking away from the tag of her family’s achievements and establishing her own.
