Lit fest: people urged to participate in large numbers

Public Works and District in-charge Minister H C Mahadevappa on Saturday, urged the people to take part in the 83rd All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in large numbers.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the registration counter at the Backward Classes Welfare department at Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavan in the city.

The minister said the people from Mysuru can register at the newly-inaugurated counter till November 21, up to 6 pm. While the people from neighbouring districts can enrol on November 22 and 23 by paying a registration fee of Rs 250.

Mahadevappa said, as many as 7,757 people have already registered at Kannada Sahitya Parishat offices across the state. "Out of them, 4,982 are men and 1,793 are women. In Mysuru district alone 800 people 550 men and 250 women, have registered.

The sammelana kit, which includes a pen, book, food coupon and details of the programmes, will be provided, he said.

The minister also flagged off the vehicle, designed to popularise the event at Maharaja's College Grounds. The vehicle will tour Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts. He performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the works to be taken up for the sammelana.

MLA Vasu, Zoo Authority of Karnataka chairperson Mallige Veeresh, Mysore Paints and Varnish chairman H A Venkatesh, Kannada Sahitya Parishat district president Dr Y D Rajanna, and Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H Chennappa were present.
